En nuestra pequeña región de por acá-Galería
The piece synthesizes the relationship between the utopian political projects and their dystopian becoming, revealed in the declassification of secret U.S. secret files. This gallery of Latin American political leaders who held public office as presidents, presidential candidates, archbishops, senators, deputies, commanders-in-chief, and ministers of state, were assassinated or tragically killed in the last 60 years of the continent’s history.
This genealogy of deaths begins in Colombia in 1948 and extends throughout Latin America in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Ecuador, Panama until the beginning of the 80s. These leaders held a common discourse and language, coming from the discourses of modernist ideologies, where they demanded economic independence, control and sovereign autonomy in the economy and political decisions, nationalization of natural resources, and the need for social reforms seeking greater social equality. The dossiers of intelligence documents referring to these stories and deaths, reveal the plots between U.S. interests and collusion with the social and economic elites of these countries that conjugate these deaths.
After almost 60 years many of these deaths are being re-investigated, court cases have been reopened and, in some cases, accidental deaths, suicides, and false culprits have been proven false. These deaths also weave a continental story, linking them to each other.
The work confronts the public portrayal and often active leadership of these leaders with the painted image of their violent deaths. In general, these deaths caused public commotion in the respective countries where they occurred, leaving their traumatic traces on societies and awaiting their judicial resolution or the establishment of the truth.
